Yesterday I went through my to-do list and broke it down into four categories of “essential, important, nice ideas and leave for now”. I won’t write all four lists here, just the list of essential work for now. If I manage to do all the items on this list in the next 11 days I’ll consider this Game Jam a success. Basically I want the project to be in a good enough condition to present it to people.
Essential Work:
Add a splash screen.
Add a start menu.
Fix any cracks in the floor or stairwells which have magenta blocks showing through.
With the cracks filled, re-bake the NavMesh.
Add a skyline around the edges of the scene.
Check around the edges of the scene and make sure any blank areas are filled in.
Add a loading scene between the start menu and first mission, this screen will detail the story for the mission, the objectives and a start button will appear when loading is done.
Add in the various arcade machines I have from the asset store to the ground floor of the tower block.
Load the arcade scene after the mission objectives are complete.
Allow the player access to only the ground floor of the arcade in this new scene by blocking off the doors.
Add an escape key pause menu with at least three buttons; resume game, restart mission and quit.
In the new arcade scene (loaded after winning the mission), add functionality for one of the arcade games. The player can start with 8 bits in their pocket to spend, so can play the bat and ball game “Ball Breaker!” eight times. It’s probably best that the player loads a new scene for each arcade game.
If I manage to get all this done I’ll move onto the important list.
